How adoption works

Come and meet them
All potential adopters must come to the shelter to meet the animals, and to give us the opportunity to meet you. Call 512-260-7722 for an appointment. Every member of the household needs to meet the animal.

Fill out an application
The application covers your current and past pets, where the animal will spend their time, details about your residence, and three references. References must be non-family members.

We complete the screening
Our adoption counsellors review the application, call your references and verify vaccination and heartworm history with your vet. This can take up to a week, so animals do not go home the same day.

The best match goes home
Applications are not approved first come, first served. They are approved based on which application is the best match for the animal. We take up to two applications per animal.
